Fourteen pro-democracy activists in Hong Kong have been convicted of subversion while the prominent Catholic has been imprisoned for three years.
On May 8, the heroic sacrifice of the imprisoned Chinese Catholic media magnate will be highlighted at a Holy Hour at the Archdiocese of San Francisco’s seminary.
Reps. Chris Smith, R-N.J., and Tom Suozzi, D-N.Y., proposed a bill to rename the address of the Hong Kong Economic Trade Office in Washington, D.C., ‘Jimmy Lai Way.’
The large drawing, which depicts Christ on the cross flanked by eight orange flowers, is on permanent display by the St. Michael the Archangel Chapel in Catholic University’s Busch School of Business. It was created by Lai in prison.

COMMENTARY: The imprisoned media magnate’s story is one of bravery, hope and, above all else, faith.
Lai’s trial began this week and he could face life in prison if convicted.
The self-made media mogul has already been detained for more than 1,000 days and faces the possibility of life in prison if he is found guilty.
His imprisonment has drawn sharp rebukes and calls for clemency from supporters including Catholic bishops.
