ANALYSIS: In a recent address, the Vatican secretary of state said there’s no going back from Pope Francis’ reforms. How does the Church determine how to accomplish them?
COMMENTARY: The upsurge in canonizations in recent decades is a reflection of the reality that another age of persecution is now underway.
COMMENTARY: The Church’s energy for the Holy Father’s overarching mission of charity has been absorbed over the last 10 years by fights over doctrine, morals and liturgy — and he has to share some of the responsibility for that.
COMMENTARY: In the 10 years of his papacy, Francis has taken about four trips per year, which is what Pope St. John Paul II averaged. In his journeys, he brings the tender compassion of God to all he meets.
Many Church leaders agree that doctrinal confusion needs to be addressed, but strongly disagree that accusing Pope Francis of heresy will help remedy the situation.
