The Pope’s appeal was on the front pages of Pakistani newspapers Monday. Catholics expressed their gratitude to the Pope for his words toward those affected by the flooding.
The flooding began with heavy rains on July 27, leading to widespread flooding across at least five eastern Kentucky counties by the weekend.
The authorities in Sucre department are concerned about the situation of 35,000 families affected by the rains and floods in the subregions of San Jorge and La Mojana.
The message added that Pope Francis is praying “especially for the people who are still missing, for the wounded, and for those whose property has suffered damage or been lost due to the power of nature.”
Water levels hit the highest level in more than 50 years.
West Virginia has seen its worst natural disaster in decades, and the state’s Catholic bishop is calling on the Church for help.
