At Sunday’s Angelus, Pope Francis honored the priests, seminarian and laypeople who were murdered out of hatred for the faith.
The martyrs to be beatified in the Seville cathedral on Nov. 18 include 10 priests, one seminarian and nine laypeople. All of them were killed out of hatred for the faith in 1936.
Archbishop Warda stressed that the martyred Father Ragheed was very close to the youth.
Father Leonard Melki and Father Thomas Saleh were Capuchin friars and missionaries in what is now Turkey who were arrested, tortured and martyred by the forces of the Ottoman Empire in 1915 and 1917 respectively.
A 3-year-old was healed through the intercession of Blessed Pauline.
