Who's Happy Now?

If you want to do work that makes you feel satisfied and happy, forget about chasing the big bucks. Focus instead on finding a job that has you serving other people. That’s the primary conclusion researchers have drawn from a University of Chicago study, the largest of its kind, whose results were released in April. The happiest and most satisfied of all American workers? Clergy. Some 87% love what they get out of their work. They were followed by firefighters (80%) and physical therapists (78%). Commenting on the No. 1 showing by people of the cloth, Cynthia Lindner, director of ministry studies at the University of Chicago’s Divinity School, said: “[The] congruence of belief, values and actions in one’s daily work can be immensely satisfying.”
