On the Road Again

A new SC Johnson survey shows that 90% of parents spend as much as 20 hours per week in a car with children under 18. The close quarters would seem a good time for praying, talking and singing together — but 88% of car-bound kids zone out on private music, 60% eat, 47% play video games, 27% watch DVDs and 23% talk to their friends via cell phone or text messaging. The researchers suggest that parents re-think car time, seeing it as “an opportunity to create a stress-free family atmosphere and strengthen the family bond.” Presumably, that would start with banning electronic devices.

Palestinian Christians celebrate Easter Sunday Mass at Holy Family Church in Gaza City on March 31, amid the ongoing battles Israel and the Hamas militant group.

People Explain ‘Why I Go to Mass’

‘Why go to Mass on Sundays? It is not enough to answer that it is a precept of the Church. … We Christians need to participate in Sunday Mass because only with the grace of Jesus, with his living presence in us and among us, can we put into practice his commandment, and thus be his credible witnesses.’ —Pope Francis
