What are the religious motivations that prompt young Muslims to seek martyrdom through becoming suicide bombers?

Go here to view yesterday’s profile in the Los Angeles Times of Hiba Qassir, an 18-year-old Lebanese teen who has three uncles who carried out suicide attacks and who says she would gladly sacrifice her dreams of a career in film-making if offered the chance to become a suicide bomber herself.

“We have many martyrs in the family, and we like this thing,” she says. “As ordinary people, we have to work and say prayers, and despite all of that we might not go to heaven. But the martyrs go directly to heaven.”
