Pope Contacts President-Elect
Pope Benedict XVI has sent a personal message to President-elect Barack Obama.
Jesuit Father Federico Lombardi, the Pope’s spokesman, said because the message was a personal one it will not be published.
But Father Lombardi disclosed that the message noted the “historic occasion” of the election of America’s first African-American president and offered congratulations to Obama and his family.
Said Father Lombardi, “He assured him of his prayers that God would help him with his high responsibilities for his country and for the international community.”
This Catholic News Service article provides additional details about the Vatican’s response to Obama’s election victory.
