Arch. Dolan’s Coat of Arms

Head over here to the Whispers of the Loggia site, to read Rocco Palmo’s lively post about Archbishop Timothy Dolan’s new coat of arms.

The heraldic display will be affixed to the new Archbishop of New York’s cathedra in St. Patrick’s Cathedral in advance of his April 15 installation.

It was designed by permanent deacon Paul J. Sullivan of Providence, R.I.

We advise reading the highly informative explanation of the rich symbolism of the coat of arms that Deacon Sullivan has graciously provided, as posted by Rocco.

And here’s a good-natured suggestion about one more symbol that might have been included in the coat of arms — a stein of beer, in recognition of Archbishop Dolan’s love of good fellowship enjoyed in the context of a pint of the amber elixir!
