Juan Antonio Sorto

Juan Antonio Sorto is a first-generation college graduate from El Salvador and a doctoral candidate at Texas Southern University’s School of Urban Planning and Environmental Justice. In addition to his annual volunteery commitment to the McAllen, Texas, Catholic Charities Respite Center, he distributes toys, food and toiletries to over 10 villages in his native town of San Miguel, El Salvador, a commitment he has maintained for over a decade. In Houston, he has volunteered his time for 19 years at the Star of Hope Homeless Shelter. He is also a mentor for first-generation elementary and college level students, a commitment he has maintained for over seven years.
