Inspiring Travel

Each year as spring and summer approach, the Register provides suggestions for prayerful travel and rejuvenation through our “travel and pilgrimage” coverage.

The beautiful Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Hanceville, Ala., about an hour from EWTN, is a wonderful place for a pilgrimage. The shrine is also the home of our own Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration — begun by EWTN’s founder, Mother Angelica.  The nuns of Our Lady of the Angels Monastery will celebrate their 50th anniversary as a religious community this May.

Mother Angelica also founded the Franciscan Missionaries of the Eternal Word, who celebrate their silver anniversary in May as well. The friary is right here on the grounds of EWTN in Irondale, Ala., and we welcome pilgrims to join the friars for daily Mass, tours, and even for one of our many EWTN shows.

We have a story on the Franciscans on page 2 of this issue, and we will feature the Poor Clares in a future issue both online and in print as we get closer to their anniversary date.

I ask you to include them in your prayers. It is safe to say that without the prayerful support of these religious women and men we at the Register would not be able to bring you the news coverage you deserve.

May God continue to bless our Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration and our Franciscan Missionaries of the Eternal Word, and may God bless you!
