Cardinal Gregory made the comments while speaking at Catholic University of America.
The Pope spoke about the Latin Mass in a private conversation with Jesuits on the second day of his April 28–30 trip to Budapest, Hungary.
The cardinal’s letter considered all the parishes where the Traditional Latin Mass continued to be celebrated. Its directives take effect Sept. 30.
The decrees are both signed by Cardinal Luis Ladaria, prefect of the CDF, and by Archbishop Giacomo Morandi, CDF secretary.
