The Cardinal, who is head of the Commission for the Protection of Minors, forwarded concerns about the N.Y. archdiocese allowing a priest under investigation for sexually abusing minors to remain in active ministry until the N.Y. Times report.
John Paul the Great University in California said the N.Y. archdiocese lied in their Dec. 4 letter stating Father Donald Timone ‘without qualification’ was fit to serve as a visiting priest, when he was under investigation for sex abuse since Autumn.
An apostolic visitation was formally proposed to the Vatican in an Aug. 16 statement from Cardinal Daniel DiNardo, president of the U.S. bishops’ conference. It has since been reiterated by several U.S. bishops.
The archbishop of New York, part of the ongoing synod on the family, said those striving for virtue also need to feel the Church’s ‘support and encouragement.’
