In a striking contrast to last week’s Democratic National Convention, during which the abortion issue was never mentioned at all, numerous RNC speakers, including President Trump, directly referenced it in their remarks.
Repeatedly highlighted throughout both Trump’s speech and the night overall was the growing violence and civil unrest throughout America.
During the third night of the Republican National Convention, the American public heard from Sister Deidre Byrne, Chinese human rights lawyer Chen Guangcheng, and Vice-President Mike Pence, among others.
President Trump defied the usual protocol for political conventions by appearing before the final day, addressing Republican delegates in Charlotte earlier in the day.
The announcement of Cardinal Dolan’s participation in the Republican convention, to be held next week mostly online, came after it was announced that Jesuit Fr. James Martin and Sr. Simone Campbell would offer prayers at the Democratic National Convention this week.
