I want to encourage you to be ‘missionaries of this infinite love of God,’ Francis said in a video message to the island-nation, which he will visit Sept. 19-22.
The prisoner release is the largest in Cuba since the communist revolution of 1959.
Last fall, Pope Francis helped to broker improved relations between Cuba and the United States, culminating in the full restoration of diplomatic ties after 50 years of strained relations.
