In an audience at the Vatican on April 29, the Pope called on commission to produce annual audit to promote ‘transparency and accountability.’ In his speech, Francis underlined that ‘abuse in any form is unacceptable.’
The Holy Father urged leaders to put the welfare of victims ahead of seeking to defend the Church’s reputation.
Pope Francis has appointed Father Andrew Small to be the secretary of the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors.
In the report, published on Nov. 10, 2020, the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) urged the bishops to “request that the Holy See redraft the canonical crimes relating to child sexual abuse as crimes against the child.”
