In his homily, Pope Francis explained how the Holy Spirit helps us to overcome sinful passions and then gently plants the seeds of virtue and helps them to grow. The Pope also recommended that people spend time praying in silence in Eucharistic adoration to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit.
In his homily, Pope Francis underlined that the Holy Spirit also forgives sins, reconciles souls, and creates harmony in hearts that are ‘wounded by evil, broken by hurts, torn apart by feelings of guilt.’
The first happened on Pentecost Sunday, May 13, 1883.
COMMENTARY: As Pope Benedict told World Youth Day pilgrims in 2008, ‘every time we celebrate Mass we receive the Holy Spirit who unites us more deeply with Christ and transforms us into him.’
SCRIPTURES & ART: ‘And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were. Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them.’ (Acts 2:2-3)
Easter lasts for a total of 50 days, from Easter Sunday until the Solemnity of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit came upon the apostles, Mary and the first followers of Christ.
