For the three new metropolitan archbishops of American sees, the experience was a reminder of their mission as shepherds.
As with the previous consistory of new cardinals, the Pope appears to have decided against a meeting with members of the College of Cardinals.
Pope Francis called them to be masters of prayer, masters of faith and men of witness, during the Mass for the Solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul in Rome.
Since 1983, the pope has bestowed the pallium to new archbishops at the Vatican on the Solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul.
