According to the Maine Division of Public Health Systems’ most recent data, there were 2,225 abortions in the state in 2022, up from 1,915 in 2021.
‘Maine has every right to decide what Maine’s laws are and how those laws should be enforced. But that same right applies to every state,’ the letter states.
‘He expresses his spiritual closeness to all those suffering from this unspeakable tragedy, especially the families who lost loved ones,’ said an Oct. 28 telegram.
The shootings reportedly took place at both a restaurant and a bowling alley in Lewiston, the second most populous city in Maine, in the southern part of the state.
In light of the current political landscape, pro-lifers are looking to state legislature races in 2024 instead.
Joel Stetkis, the Chairman of the Maine GOP, said in a statement following the governor’s signing of the bill that it is “truly a dark day for our beloved state of Maine.”
