“Each man receives his eternal retribution in his immortal soul at the very moment of his death, in a particular judgment that refers his life to Christ: either entrance into the blessedness of heaven — through a purification or immediately — or immediate and everlasting damnation.” (CCC 1022)
Your time on earth is fixed, and constantly diminishing — take life and death seriously
“At the evening of life, we shall be judged on our love.” —St. John of the Cross
The Four Last Things end with a period, not a question mark.
The cross is a sign of judgment. A God who dies on a cross is a God who takes love and sin seriously.
“To die in mortal sin without repenting and accepting God’s merciful love means remaining separated from him forever by our own free choice. This state of definitive self-exclusion from communion with God and the blessed is called ‘hell.’” (CCC 1033)
Jesus loves sinners, but he doesn’t countenance sin. We ought to do the same.
Judgment is real because love is real and persons are real.
Heaven is the “fulfillment of the deepest human longings, the state of supreme, definitive happiness.”
