The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales said on its website that the Friday message was read aloud at baby Indi’s funeral.
The baby’s funeral was held at Nottingham Cathedral in England on Dec. 1. Her parents promised to make sure Indi’s life is ‘remembered forever.’
The case is symptomatic of a wider societal problem in the U.K., says Catholic bioethist.
Gregory added that he has also decided to be baptized: “We want to be protected in this life and go to heaven.”
In a statement released through Christian Concern, Gregory’s parents said they ‘are angry, heartbroken and ashamed.’
The decision came after Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni wrote to the U.K.’s lord chancellor and secretary of state for justice on Nov. 10 in an appeal to bring Gregory to Rome for treatment.
The family, supported by the Christian Legal Centre, says they will appeal the decision.
