NEWS ANALYSIS: Without decisive intervention from Rome, faithful Catholics in Germany are likely to be pushed ‘underground,’ cautions New Beginning
COMMENTARY: The synodal path is merely a symptom of a bigger problem: The Church is dealing with de facto atheists who believe in secular modernity more than they believe in the Christ of the Church.
A NOTE FROM THE PUBLISHER: The naked pressure tactics on display at the most recent gathering of the German ‘Synodal Path’ are completely alien to the healthy functioning of a collegial and fraternal Church — essentially, they betray the concept of synodality itself.
Cardinal Mario Grech, secretary-general for the Synod of Bishops, said he disapproved of the style: ‘I think a fraternal correction and dialogue is very positive. But why a public denunciation? It doesn’t help. It only polarizes further.’
The Holy Father addressed a variety of issues en route.
‘It is all in this letter,’ he said of the instruction he presented three years ago.
Organizers accused the Vatican of a lack of willingness to communicate, as others welcomed the Holy See intervention.
