The bill would provide for self-determination of gender, so a person can change one’s name and sex on their National Identity Document by presenting a declaration, without the need for medical reports or proof of having started hormone treatments.
Critics claim it harms youth who identify as ‘LGBTQ+,’ but the experts counter that young children should not be exposed to ideas that are not developmentally appropriate for their age.
Bishop Doerfler said the document is not intended to serve as a complete treatment of the issue, but rather to provide basic considerations for pastoral care in these cases.
