In his homily, the archbishop emphasized the valuable role the Catholic Church plays in Cuban society, saying 'truth makes peaceful relations and constructive dialogue possible.'
The diocesan priest has been a critical voice against the extreme poverty and the repressive actions of the police state, since he himself has experienced both and has seen them in the lives of fellow Cubans.
Turning to priestly formation in particular, Fr. Pias said there is a particular need to accompany seminarians, since “often there are really good, nice people, but sometimes guys also come who are very broken.”
