The school risks ‘no longer being identified as a Catholic institution’ if it persists in flying the flags, according to the local diocese.
Denton, a rising senior at the university, was removed from his position as head of the university’s student senate in early June over remarks he made in a chat forum of the school’s Catholic student union in late May.

Bishop Timothy Doherty of the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana asked Father Theodore Rothrock to step away from public ministry “because of the division and damage felt within the parish, diocese and larger community.”
Screenshots of Denton’s texts show that he said “everyone should be aware that BlackLivesMatter.com, Reclaim the Block, and the ACLU all advocate for things that are explicitly anti-Catholic.”
