Bishop Checchio joins the leadership of New Orleans as the archdiocese moves to resolve yearslong bankruptcy negotiations with a settlement for over 600 clergy sexual abuse claimants.
On the eve of the law's taking effect, Bishop Checchio condemned assisted suicide as “a grievous affront to the dignity of human life” that “can never be morally justified.”
If passed, the bill would require full coverage for certain contraceptives and abortion-inducing drugs in health care plans and remove exemptions for religious organizations.
