A media firestorm erupted this week after leaked emails showed the extent of the Saints’ involvement in offering the archdiocese public relations help amid its reckoning with the clergy abuse crisis.
Among the 15 victims were a mother of a 4-year-old, an 18-year-old aspiring nurse from Mississippi, and a student-athlete who was visiting home for the holidays.
At least 15 people were killed and 30 others were injured and taken to five area hospitals.
In addition, the archdiocese will post a public apology in the archdiocesan newspaper addressed ‘to all known child sexual abuse claimants.’
In addition to the financial compensation, Archbishop Aymond said the plan will include as-yet-undisclosed 'nonmonetary covenants' that the archdiocese is 'continuing to negotiate with the committee of abuse survivors.'
Priest Sex-Abuse Investigation Expands
The warrant comes as state police are investigating retired priest Lawrence Hecker, who was indicted in September on felony charges related to allegations that he raped an underage teenage boy in the 1970s.
Founded by a single Catholic laywoman in her late 20s in 1939 with a new vision of evangelization, the store became a ‘creator of community.’
Archbishop Gregory Aymond made the announcement in an Oct. 29 letter that was read at every Mass at all parishes in the archdiocese last weekend.
