A recent report found that attacks on churches are at an all-time high, occurring in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
Bishop Shwe said in a statement published by Agenzia Fides that “the Burmese army tried to take the Christ the King Cathedral complex three times” before finally occupying it on Nov. 27.
The vandalism is believed to have occurred around 5:45 a.m., according to police. Law enforcement will be investigating if the vandalism was a hate crime.
Parishioners attending daily Mass Tuesday morning discovered the defaced crosses and banner.
Soto-Olivarez was observed in security footage committing the desecration, the police said.
The new documents were only made available to the House Judiciary Committee. The FBI has requested that the committee not disseminate the documents without consulting it first.
“There’s no doubt about giving them forgiveness. I was often thinking that the police statues are going to be justice. But if we get ahold of you, it’s going to be mercy,” he said.
