Manchin stated that the airstrikes are “particularly threatening to hundreds of traumatized Yazidi families attempting to return to Sinjar and to other civilians in northern Iraq—none of whom deserve to be placed in harm’s way by a NATO ally.”
Catholic leaders and scholars, in the United States and in the Middle East, differ about whether the military action was warranted.
They called on the U.N. to advocate for peaceful solutions in Syria and asked for the prayers of all churchgoers in the United States, France and the U.K.
