The Lord of the Flies School

When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child. But, when I became a man, I decided to put the children in charge.

I hesitate to call an idea stupid (OK, I really don’t), but in the history of stupid ideas, this gets top billing right next to getting involved in a land war in Asia and “Flock of Seagulls” haircuts.

The idea?  Schools entirely run by kids.  Little kids.

What could go wrong?

This is clearly an NBC puff piece, but I cannot help but speculate if, perhaps, the producers are making some subliminal commentary.

Take the success story mentioned in the piece.  The crowning glory which proves the success of the program, a cleaning lady.

The included endorsement of the program by an MIT grad proves the old axiom that great folly requires a great education.  I trust that your average cleaning lady would laugh at such a premise.

Children need structure.  Children need authority.  Children need guidance.  Children need training in the empirical and the moral.  You know why?  Kids are dopey, that is their defining quality.  Dopey.

The only thing more dopey than children is a parent who would send their child to such a place.

Palestinian Christians celebrate Easter Sunday Mass at Holy Family Church in Gaza City on March 31, amid the ongoing battles Israel and the Hamas militant group.

People Explain ‘Why I Go to Mass’

‘Why go to Mass on Sundays? It is not enough to answer that it is a precept of the Church. … We Christians need to participate in Sunday Mass because only with the grace of Jesus, with his living presence in us and among us, can we put into practice his commandment, and thus be his credible witnesses.’ —Pope Francis
