Editor’s Note: This episode of Register Radio aired in 2011.

In our first segment, 9/11 survivor Richard Mack retells his harrowing journey down the stairwell as he escaped the World Trade Center’s South Tower, and shares the role that his Catholic faith has played in the 10 years since the terrorist attack. You can also read Mack’s Register column “Recalling 9/11: God Is Always Present.”

In our “Media Watch” segment, Father Robert Barron, founder of Word on Fire ministries and the ambitious Catholicism television series joined us to talk about the media’s frequent distortion of the Church. Interestingly, Father Barron said that the level of hostility in the press toward the faith has increased since 9/11.

“The terrorist attacks gave rise to the old Enlightenment belief that religion is irrational, and irrationality leads to violence,” said Father Barron.
