Health-Care Weekend Roundup

Here are links to stories detailing the events of this past weekend regarding health-care reform. Saturday morning, Nebraska Sen. Ben Nelson said he would support the bill, with a compromise on abortion funding worked out with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

Pro-Life groups say the compromise is a far cry from the Stupak-Pitts Amendment in the House version of the bill and actually, in the words of National Right to Life, “creates some new abortion-related problems.”

Nelson was the last vote Reid needed to get the 60 votes to end debate. This morning, shortly after 1 a.m., the Senate took the first of three procedural votes to move the massive bill toward a final vote, set for Christmas Eve.

Palestinian Christians celebrate Easter Sunday Mass at Holy Family Church in Gaza City on March 31, amid the ongoing battles Israel and the Hamas militant group.

People Explain ‘Why I Go to Mass’

‘Why go to Mass on Sundays? It is not enough to answer that it is a precept of the Church. … We Christians need to participate in Sunday Mass because only with the grace of Jesus, with his living presence in us and among us, can we put into practice his commandment, and thus be his credible witnesses.’ —Pope Francis
