Unbelievable Shock Environmental Video

Saturday, October 02, 2010 7:57 PM Comments (94)

Let me say up front that I have nothing against treating the environment in a responsible manner. It’s implied by the commission God gave mankind in Genesis 1. I also try to avoid fights about words, so whether one would call a responsible environmental position “conservationism” or “environmentalism” is a thing that does not need to be fought about.

But there is a very prominent strand in the environmental movement that takes matters to extreme and anti-human limits. In a previous post, I have referred to this position as environmental fundamentalism, to distinguish it from healthy concern for the environment.

I mean, nobody wants to make Iron Eyes Cody‘s iron eyes cry. Do they?

However that may be, the deeply misanthropic views and “convert-or-die” rhetoric of environmental fundamentalism was very clearly on display this week, with the release of a shock video produced by 10:10, an international initiative to get people to cut their “carbon emissions” by 10%.

Here’s the video . . .

WARNING: EXTREMELY GROSS AND OFFENSIVE!

Oh, and that is Gillian Anderson of X-Files fame at the end, now sporting long blond tresses.

According to the 10:10 initiative, the script for this video was written by “Britain’s leading comedy writer, Richard Curtis,” who is the director of the 2003 romantic comedy, “Love Actually.” What the video displays, however, is hate, actually. Hatred of those who disagree with you such that you find it funny to ironically lie to them (“No pressure”) and then depict their bloody and explosive deaths in graphic detail (shlurppp!) . . . even if they are children.

The Telegraph’s James Delingpole, “a writer, journalist and broadcaster who is right about everything” puts it well when he says:

With No Pressure, the environmental movement has revealed the snarling, wicked, homicidal misanthropy beneath its cloak of gentle, bunny-hugging righteousness.

Meanwhile, over at 10:10’s “media partner” The Guardian, we read the following from 10:10 founder Franny Armstrong:

“Doing nothing about climate change is still a fairly common affliction, even in this day and age. What to do with those people, who are together threatening everybody’s existence on this planet? Clearly we don’t really think they should be blown up, that’s just a joke for the mini-movie, but maybe a little amputating would be a good place to start?” jokes 10:10 founder and Age of Stupid film maker Franny Armstrong.

But why take such a risk of upsetting or alienating people, I ask her: “Because we have got about four years to stabilise global emissions and we are not anywhere near doing that. All our lives are at threat and if that’s not worth jumping up and down about, I don’t know what is.”

“We ‘killed’ five people to make No Pressure – a mere blip compared to the 300,000 real people who now die each year from climate change,” she adds.

GAH!

Well, the blowback on this one was such that 10:10 swiftly pulled its own video and issued this completely inadequate and insincere half-apology:

Sorry.

Today we put up a mini-movie about 10:10 and climate change called ‘No Pressure’.

With climate change becoming increasingly threatening, and decreasingly talked about in the media, we wanted to find a way to bring this critical issue back into the headlines whilst making people laugh. We were therefore delighted when Britain’s leading comedy writer, Richard Curtis - writer of Blackadder, Four Weddings, Notting Hill and many others – agreed to write a short film for the 10:10 campaign. Many people found the resulting film extremely funny, but unfortunately some didn’t and we sincerely apologise to anybody we have offended.

As a result of these concerns we’ve taken it off our website. We won’t be making any attempt to censor or remove other versions currently in circulation on the internet.

We’d like to thank the 50+ film professionals and 40+ actors and extras and who gave their time and equipment to the film for free. We greatly value your contributions and the tremendous enthusiasm and professionalism you brought to the project.

At 10:10 we’re all about trying new and creative ways of getting people to take action on climate change. Unfortunately in this instance we missed the mark. Oh well, we live and learn.

Onwards and upwards,

Franny, Lizzie, Eugenie and the whole 10:10 team

The casual, breezy tone adopted by Franny, Lizzie, Eugenie, and the whole 10:10 team makes it clear that they just don’t “get it.” Note also how “many people found the resulting film extremely funny, but . . . some didn’t.”

Yeah. Nice defense of your own filmmaking in the first clause. Nice dissing of the people you’re apologizing to in the second. You’re so sincere.

And this is by no means that eco-fundamentalism has revealed its misanthropic face in the media.

Delingpole helpfully provides a link to this threatening videogram delivered by Greenpeace, in which a wee bairn stonefacedly appears to make patricidal and matricidal insinuations:

Charming lad, that.

So . . . nice to see the mask coming off.

What are your thoughts?

right on, little brother…

How sad to see real threats to life, humanitarian disasters like war and abortion, ignored by these people, while a false, imaginary threat like global warming has them making threats against our safety.  The polar bears are not dying off, the oceans are not rising, and the fish are not becoming extinct.  Meanwhile, people actually are dying in wars, in acts of terror, and through abortion.

In addition to the falsehoods promoted by those environmentalists and global warming prophets who leave huge “carbon footprints”, (in other words, don’t walk the walk), they totally ignore evidence such as how contraceptives are entering the waters and deforming our fish.  If we respect life as God intended, we will naturally respect the environment and our future generations’ heritage.  This is an obvious case of twisting the truth until it’s unrecognizable.

That video is horrific. Utterly horrific. It goes to show the type of tyranny some “liberal” people would like to enforce on dissenters. Fascists!

BUT Sad, how do you know the polar bears aren’t dying??? Have you ever lived in the North? Talked to Inuit elders who are worried sick about how thin the bears and seals are, the lack of sea ice each year, the way their livelihood and way of life are evaporating with the ice? Have you sat in a town council meeting in Tuktoyaktuk, where they are trying to figure out how to move the lcoal cemetery, because the rising Arctic Ocean is eroding it into the sea?

I have. And let me tell you, it’s easy to deny climate change if you don’t live in a place already affected. I lived in the far North for 8 years, and the changes in that short time span were breathtaking—and the 80-year-old elders were worried sick about changes they had not seen in their lifetimes.

Denying climate change is a waste of time. God expects us to be good stewards of our resources. Driving our SUVs everywhere, walking nowhere, and burning oil like it’s going out of style is not good stewardship. The North American lifestyle as it now stands is unhealthy to humans (hello, obesity epidemic) and the planet.

My understanding is that one of the volcanoes that recently blew up put more carbon into the air as to msake the whole car emissions issue a moot point. And blowing the people up was so fitting, because the climate change people who want to limit our children because of their impact on the earth are doing the exact same thing, denying the dignity of the human person in favor of an agenda about our planet.
To Cin: I will grant you the situation in the north is real, but how much impact did our car emissions and light bulbs REALLY have on that situation?  My understanding is that we have gone through cooling and warming cycles through the centuries, and we happen to be in a warming cycle.  Also, if you look at Mars, the same phenomena is happening in their polar ice caps, with no humans to add carbon to their atmosphere.

This materials far worse than the Pro-Life signs that the recently released FBI Planned Parenthood love fest called domestic terrorism. Anyone involved in the production not a US ciitizen should be forever denied a visa to the United States and all of them should be on the no fly list.

i agree with the above by Re. Calabrese

These people are the Taliban-the Hezbollah brigade-of the environmentalist whack-jobs. The climate is always changing, the Antarctic was a temperate zone millions of years ago. If our N.American lifestyle is so bad, why are millions of people coming here.

If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts. (Ps. 95)

Today (Sunday) is day 1 of the International week of prayer and fasting. How appropriate that Christians need to PRAY to return this culture of death to a culture of life:

Almighty and eternal God, we come before you with hearts filled with your love. Each day we long to hear your voice, to open our eyes and ears to hear your words and to open our mouths to proclaim your goodness. Help us this day to grow stronger in our awareness of your presence in our lives and to boldly profess our belief in you. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen

Never mind the videos, never mind the rumors, or what your next door neighbour believes, just read the science, carefully check the facts, then make up your mind about what is happening to the environment and how to be a good steward of it.

There has been extensive research, and there are things that scientists who normally can’t agree what day is it, absolutely agree upon.  And follow the money - if the research is done by people or organizations that stand to make a whole whack of money from it, then it’s highly suspicious.

It is our responsibility to seek the truth in these matters, not just settle on what we chose to believe.

I would urge anyone who is interested in uncovering the lies and deception of ‘climate change’ science (didn’t it used to be called global warming?)read Ian Wishart’s book “Con Air”.  He deftly uncovers the manipulation, lies and misinformation issued forth by the global warming propagandists.

Sorry, the book is called “Air Con”, not Con Air.

those two videos are two bright little spots of sunshine in an otherwise dreary day. Such charming people like the teacher, the boss and especially that little boy in the second video; you just want to hug them, so cuddly. I cannot understand what the fuss is about. It only makes sense to detonate anyone who does not share your same viewpoint, regardless of whether you want to offer fact or merely a specious dollop of a condescending vitriol. And really, what is a little patricide or matricide between family and friends? After all the bonds of a cause are so much stronger. And for anyone who even thinks about disagreeing with this post, just think about the little red button….....I think the power of the force would be very handy right now.

I had seen this video a few days ago and they discussed it on the Friday night/Saturday morning edition of RedEye on FoxNews. During the discussion they quoted from an interview with the guy whose group did the video. He complained that people didn’t get “the joke.” Then he went on to say that it was purposefully over the top and suggested it would be enough to amputate an arm or a leg.

We shouldn’t be surprised, really.  After all human life has no value when compared to a turtle egg, or perhaps a tree.

Now, blowing people up because they have a different opinion…that’s OK.  But cut down a TREE?  NEVER!

How did things get so turned upside down?

Because we haven’t been doing our jobs.

Matt 5:13-16 ‘You are salt for the earth. But if salt loses its taste, what can make it salty again? It is good for nothing, and can only be thrown out to be trampled under people’s feet. ‘You are light for the world. A city built on a hill-top cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp to put it under a tub; they put it on the lamp-stand where it shines for everyone in the house. In the same way your light must shine in people’s sight, so that, seeing your good works, they may give praise to your Father in heaven.

I think I actually found the 2nd video more disturbing.  Imagine an entire generation being indoctrinated with such hatred over a perceived and most likely imagined or extremely exaggerated threat.  He looks like he’s ready to kill someone in order to prevent the unlikely threat of a bleaker existence.  An eco-terrorist in the making.

Just to look at that poor boy’s emaciated face and look into rage in his eyes is very frightening. It sends a chill down my spine.  I would bet that the connection can be made with the cult-like following of Harry Potter for some years now and the Greenpeace child zombie on the video. I wonder if the Twilight cult following will be appearing in videos in the near future. The culture of death has now permeated into the very souls of our children through the pied pipers of death, evil and sin, calling good evil and evil good. Archangels Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, pray for us and assist us with your angels.

In our efforts to help with 40 days for life yesterday, we were envaded by college students holding “Save the Whale” signs to detract from the Pro Life message.  We walked over to speak with them and as we gave them the Good Word about their value and self-worth, they began to spew the doctrine straight from the bible of the environmentalists.  They stressed that people are the cause of all evil.  Period.  I directed my question at the woman (18 yrs old) and asked her why she is opposed to the Pro Life movement if she is fighting for LIFE, all be it-whales, and she said she would never contribute to the problems with our environment by having children, as a matter of fact, she had an abortion BECAUSE she didn’t want to be part of the problem… my heart will forever ache for this young lady and her friends.  I pray that they find the truth and start to understand the lies that they are being fed from this altar of self-hatred, self-distructive MOTHER earth god they are being forced to worship.

RosalindaL,

What you experienced was truly sad/ In response to another blog article which Jimmy wrote on the radical enviromentalists I commented that I believed the reason there was so much craziness in the environmental movement was because the Church had failed to be in the forefront on this issue.

I have a Facebook friend who is an atheist and she posted today that people who believe in God - any god, in her opinion - were the cause of environmental deterioration. I tried to explain to her that only Christians have a valid reason for even caring about the environment. I mentioned that Darwinists are inconsistent since their philosophy teaches that the most successful will dominate the less fit. Therefore if man destroys other species in order to gain, that is in keeping with their beliefs.

Those people who are willing to murder a baby for the sake of the environment are really admitting that their own lifestyle is incompatible with their environmentalism. If children are a drain on the environment it is because they are being raised with a materialistic ethos.

“Talked to Inuit elders…”

Some Inuit leaders in Greenland are looking forward towards oil exploration there. Seems there could be a boom there in the development of resources.

“God expects us to be good stewards of our resources.”

Sincerely, what does this mean in our technologically advanced age? How is using the internet being a good steward given the amount of chemicals and energy used to extract and process materials into our convenient electronic devices, and the need for 24/7 utilities to keep us access to the net…well, 24/7?

They totally destroy any credulity ( if there was any) with these videos which now they say were just jokes! The whole movement is a joke! And takes our concerns and mindfulness away from what needs to be done to
save ourselves..from ourselves. Prayer, especially the rosary, is more necessay than ever and to seek Truth! Oversimplistic? Not at all!!

Both of those videos are unspeakable.  For someone to say many people found them funny is absurb.  I have been using cfl light bulbs for years.  The ice caps are melting and sea level is rising.  But this is something that happened many times over the eons on earth.  But what ever the cause for this global warming there is no excuse for such videos.  At best it is in poor taste to say the least.  The comedian is not funny!

Do people not realise that nobody was actually killed during the making of that film?
There is no such thing as bad publicity and that video has people talking so its achieved its aim even without being put on tv. I’ll admit i found it funny too!

Funniest videos I’ve seen in months.

I’m sorry, but denial of man made climate change isn’t a waste of time. I have scoured the Internet trying to find the data behind “Global Warming.” I can’t find it. Only promising leads are sites where I have to pay hundreds of dollars for access. The best “evidence” I can find are bar graphs that I could draw and post on the Internet if I so desired. If this is such a big problem, the data (not the results) would be plastered all over the Internet. Additionally, how many of the scientists always referred to as being “in agreement” are actually environmentalists or meteorologists?

There are lots of possible causes of the diminishing of sea ice, not all of them have climate change implications. Some explanations involve the cyclical nature of the planet and its weather. If we were to do something drastic (like begin removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere) it would be far worse for the planet than the imagined consequences proposed by the environmental crowd.

Blowing people up who don’t agree with you is absolutely deplorable. That’s what Al-Qua’ida did to us on 9/11. Did any of you who thought this video was funny think anything was funny about that day?

mccarthy and Greg,

Did you find the video of the angry kid making threats against his mother and father equally hilarious?

Those who think these videos are funny have a very distorted and disturbing sense of humor. If this is the kind of thinking behind global warming it too may be distorted and certainly disturbing….in that people are taking them seriously. Let’s put our efforts in solving the problems we agree are real and threatening NOW…like abortion, poverty and world peace! We can start with the November elections…and putting away career politicians and greedy beaurocrats…FOREVER !!!!

C S Lewis said it best

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”

Ummm…yeah. Funny not. Insanity definitely. I say, save the enviroment by having more children! Larger families reuse more and waste less. Marketing people don’t like them because they have less money to waste on buying things they don’t need.

Guy..great quote!! But the reality is we don’t HAVE to live under either
the robber baron or the “I know what’s best for everybody” mentality…we live in a country where everyone of age has a voice. It is called the vote! It is the civic and moral responsibility for everyone eligible to exercise this right come this November. Whatever your disposition get out and vote!! Hopefully the current set of bums will be voted out of office and their propensity to turn our country into a socialistic wasteland! It should be an informed vote…not a vote cast reflecting the hysteria whipped up by a liberal and amoral media! We are paying for that mistake made the last time around!

To anyone who still believes that humans are the primary cause of “global warming”, how do you respond to the thousands of scientists who are skeptical? The entire thing is based on the premise that carbon drives change, but every historical record of changes shows that increases in carbon *follow* increases in temperature. Solar activity is a much more accurate correlate of earth’s temperature variations.

I’m all for caring for the environment, but I’ve researched this a great deal, and I can find no convincing argument that the “science is settled” in favor of anthropogenic climate change. The very claim is an affront to the scientific method, and is only made by those whose political views are polluting their capacity to reason.

And where do they get this 300,000 people dying every day due to man-made climate change?  Is every weather-related death now being attributed to it?  The earth has been much warmer before; the oceans did not become a giant crab boil (so I wouldn’t break out the Old Bay just yet) and people throughout history have had to adapt to weather (and often died from it).  For people who mock “young earth” creationists,  extremists certainly wear blinders when it comes to climate history, “My mind is made up, don’t confuse me with the facts,” is not just for the religious or the conservative. This whole thing is starting to look like a mixed-up confusion of Mad Max anarchy death wishes, grant money/carbon cap greed, anti-establishment venting, Superman fantasies, and power grabbing.  I worry environmentalists are being used in the same way despots have always used the passions of reformers.  Most environmentalist probably don’t consider their movement religious (although it is most certainly ideological) but it has taken on the trappings without any of the moral constraints, and that makes it vulnerable to manipulation and potentially very dangerous.  The fact that these propaganda pieces were made without apology shows an incredible amount of blindness to this reality.  If one buys into the lie that “all wars, murder and bloodshed are caused by ‘religion’” instead of “all wars, murder and bloodshed are caused by sin (greed, lust for power, coveting, etc.) then it’s easy to go blind and stay blind.

The second video portrays the same chicken-little mantra that Progressives have peddled for over a century to scare people into the loving arms of the benevolent and wise ruling class. 40 years ago as a student condemned to government schools, ELF, ALF, PETA, Sierra Club, etc., propagandized us via the complicit NEA and lazy teachers. I finally aroused from this mind-numbing pabulum during the course of my professional education, when I started to read things outside of the elite controlled box of reality. A populace indoctrinated, and not educated, does not have the ability to critically evaluate the “data,” thus they do not know when they’ve been had. Climate change, poverty, diseased people dropping dead on streets, whatever the socioeconomic ill; all are crises demanding to be manipulated for the consolidation of the power of the ruling elite. Wake up. Get right with God. Read Scripture. The Way, the Truth, and the Light will lead you out of the mire of human made power struggles and the inevitable evil that follows. There is a proven, workable governance structure available, but its success demands individual accountability and individuals assisting each other, without depending on some government entity to do the heavy lifting. The framework is called the U.S. Constitution. Read it – it’s only 17 pages long – and it’s better than 33% based on Scripture; the rest is based on the collective wisdom gleaned from the lessons of history.

Nan ...you have it right! Let’s get rid of those who would dupe us on their way to a power grab. Vote them out of office come this November..and take back our country. Set our Nation on the right road again!

Testify Nan!!  You came up the same time I did apparently.  Paul Simon must have been speaking prophetically of us (those educated in the ‘70’s) when he wrote, “When I think back on all the crap I learned in high school, it’s a wonder I can think at all.”  I went to high school in the ‘80’s but by then the damage had been done.  I clearly remember being told to expect, in my life time, and very near future (the ‘80’s) an ICE AGE, a Soylent Green lifestyle (due to massive over-population), life without energy resources (because we, of course, by 1982, would run out of oil), political collapse, nuclear winter and so on.  This was presented as fact.  How many of us spent the teen years up to our pits in nihilism?  And because of all the wacky social experimentation of the times, some of us had no solid family or religious values to lean upon.  That’s why I hate, HATE to hear otherwise intelligent young people repeat trendy “facts” so uncritically.  Everything is taken in faith but Jesus.

A surreal bad-taste advert does not change the scientific basis for anthropogenic climate change

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_opinion_on_climate_change

look at the sources in the references to see the overwhelming scientific consensus.

Some here only reply to the overwhelming scientific consensus by suggesting a massive global conspiracy theory involving: the UN, most of the world’s climate scientists, most of the world’s governments, NASA etc..

This is a very good reason to become a Catholic—We preach LOVE which is the only thing that will overcome this type of hatred.

Leo…the point you are trying to make cannot be made…there is no
scientific consensus driving this issue…only political bias and
ideological madness…along with not afew get rich schemes out there
ala.Albert Gore! You are among the duped! Sorry to be the bearer of bad
news but those ARE the facts!

I thought the whole spiel by physicist Dr. Denis Rancourt was pretty interesting.  He’s apparently a left-wing environmentalist “who has officially bailed out of the man-made global warming movement.”  He was
a former professor and environmental science researcher at the University of Ottawa.  It’s another point of view to ponder at any rate: video:
http://allpainnogain.cfact.org/default.asp
His entire article on his blog:
http://activistteacher.blogspot.com/2007/02/global-warming-truth-or-dare.html

Ok, just one more… this whole page is really good:

http://www.climatedepot.com/a/7477/Leftwing-Env-Scientist-Bails-Out-Of-Global-Warming-Movement-Declares-it-a-corrupt-social-phenomenonstrictly-an-imaginary-problem-of-the-1st-World-middleclass

Carol,
Preach love but practice quite the opposite.

Hey folks,
Try researching the global warming issue (the right wing changed the name to climate change because it sounded more benign), without ideological blinkers - it’s important that you do this!

Marty, your “angry kid making threats against his mother and father” interpretation is funny too.  Is it a line from your script, and do you also make an effort to scowl when you recite it?

So every scientist in the world - including the ones paid tons of money by the resource industry - have to agree that global warming is a real phenomenon, that we are at least partially responsible for it.

That will never happend.  So again, I urge you to seek out credible resources, people who make less money saying that we are in real danger vs the kind of money they’d make if they said the opposite.

Shamrock, you say “Let’s put our efforts in solving the problems we agree are real and threatening NOW”.  I suspect that’s what the people behind these videos are also saying.

Sandra how do you know Carol preaches love but practices just the opposite. That’s a rash judgment. Those who are so worried about the climate change making the planet uninhabitable, need to google “Demographic Winter” and get educated.  The human race is not replacing itself. This will bring about real disasterous consequences for the planet, such as too few human beings to inhabit it. I wonder how concerned they are about the real depletion of human beings through abortion, contraception and euthanasia, war. But then, the radical environmentalists put whales, animals, trees, guppies, etc. first on the save list, human beings at the bottom. The frightening thing is that the whole global warming/environmental movement had evolved into a religion with pagan beliefs, whether they know it or not, believe it or not. I would invite those who follow this kind of belief system to read the works of St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Albert the Great, and check out what the Catholic Church teaches about responsible stewardship of the earth and it’s resources. There is found genuine truth and wisdom down through the ages to the present day.

Perhaps you are right Greg ...but I think what they see as the problems to be solved as dilusional,,,and contrived in order to obtain their nefarious agenda.

Yeah, Greg, it’s just hilarious!

Here’s from the script for you:
“The global warming is caused by things you grown ups do, and don’t do.  You adults have known about this for years.  You could have done something about it yet you haven’t.  Starting today, the lines are drawn.  Either you’re for my future, or against it.  You are a friend, or an enemy. I may just be a kid today.  Tomorrow will be different.  This is the last time I’ll be talking to you adults.  You had your chance to fix this problem, now we have ours.  We won’t be cute, we won’t be patronized, and we will not be denied our future.”

No, Greg, I don’t scowl.  I’d have to practice for a long time to be as good as your little eco-bully.

Riiight.  Absolutely. Your choice.  Nooooo pressure.

Patricia-
To quote Carol:
This is a very good reason to become a Catholic—We preach LOVE which is the only thing that will overcome this type of hatred.

If you read the comments of Catholics on this blog and several other NCR blogs, let’s just say I’m not feelin’ the love.

Again, I urge you to quit looking at the issue through ideological blinkers and read credible research, that is research done by people who are searching the truth, not getting paid to debunk the credible scientists.

As long as you start with a dogmatic faith, then everything that you experience, read, and listen to will only reinforce that belief.  That’s why Fox News is so popular - they say things that people want to hear to reinforce their preconceived beliefs.  This serves the purposes of the billionaires who support that station - so they can accumulate even more wealth by exploiting those beliefs.  They don’t bother even proving their preposterous statements with facts because they can manipulate their listeners by saying things that reinforce those preconceived beliefs.  Rupert Murdock, the Koch brothers - they don’t believe the stuff that’s presents itself as journalism on Fox.  It just serves their purposes.

Sandra,

How do you know what the motives of the Fox News execs, and Koch brothers are?  Are you prescient?  Good friends? Had a long conversation with them? Bit arrogant of you, no?

Sandra…and you will never “feel the love” as long as you are filled with
such fear and hatred.  There is no room in the hearts of those so prejudice against Catholicism for love and compassion. Such prejudice turns to hate…witness that unfortunate young man who speaks ..really snarls…with so much venom. It is the kind of twisted mind that walks into a Columbine and begins acting out that hatred. Why must you “preach” your “message” so vehemently? Not everyone agrees..even the vast majority of scientists…not all the facts are on the side of the environmentalists. Every sane person agrees we need to take better care of our environment…but not to the extreme and detriment of society these extremists call for…what about the inner environment? Why makes a pseudo science turn people so bitter…especially that young boy? Something that causes that much hatred comes from a very dark place!

By their deeds you shall know them.

“Try researching the global warming issue (the right wing changed the name to climate change because it sounded more benign), without ideological blinkers - it’s important that you do this!”

Ummmm…the right wingers didn’t change the name of the cause. The Obama camp did, so it wouldn’t be linked with what’s already becoming known as “junk science.” They think by changing the name, they can fool us into thinking the cause has somehow “moderated.” It hasn’t. And real research has proven this is junk science for at least ten years now. But real research doesn’t make any liberal causes cash. So it’s suppressed. Remember all those e-mails that scientific bodies found talking about whose, and which, work they’d have to suppress in order to make the UN Climate report make sense? You heard about that for, what, a couple of hours on non-MSM outlets? That’s a scandal beyond anything the Church could ever dream up. Why isn’t it being screamed from headlines every single day until those people are brought up on fraud charges, bounced from their cushy university or research science jobs, and blacklisted from any further research money? Can you imagine if a CONSERVATIVE tried to pull this off, where the ire level would be?

These people continue to blame a Pope for matters over which he had no control, which he could only have known with ESP, and over which ultimately OTHERS had responsibility…but somehow this massive fraud—which resulted in defrauding and deceiving the Nobel Prize Committee—doesn’t merit more than a couple of days’ coverage and then is dismissed as if it’s a fairy tale?

Man-made global climate change is an egotistical joke liberals play on all of us, and the trouble is, many of us aren’t getting that it IS a joke…while Al Gore lives in a mansion burning enough energy to power a small village. If man was so all-powerful in terms of climate effects, then why can’t man divert hurricanes? Tornadoes? Wildfires? Volcanoes? What kind of superinflated idea of one’s own importance has to be present in order to IMAGINE that we, with our puny “weather models” that can’t predict accurately for as much as 72 hours, can use those same weather models to definitively state what’s been happening on earth for 100 years or more? What’s worse, how did people operating on that ridiculous premise manage to fool ANYBODY?

Yes, indeed, follow the money. But look at yourself in the mirror, too,  and ask how in the world we’ve all allowed this nonsense to perpetuate itself. Answer? Liberal voters. If you did so in the last 20 years, congratulate yourself. You’re part of the problem, not the solution.

And enjoy that kid when he grows up!

JB

Janny,
Making things up doesn’t make it so.  And the remark about liberal voters causing all the problems - simplistic thinking at best.  Liberal voters caused the economic crisis?  Just for openers - take a look at that issue and connect it to liberal voters.    Absurd!

Incidentally, I’ve never voted liberal in my life!

Au contraire!!!Sandra! Janny speaks the truth about the place where this
all is coming from…the liberal agenda! That cannot be denied! Follow
the trail…and by their fruits( rotten) you shall know them!!! Recognize where this all comes from and who the major supporters are…
it is folly to try to smear the Catholics with this one..or Christians
in general…this is a political issue! We are called as Christians to be good stewards…not over-the-top “greenies” with political ramifications.
Take a better look at the deeds, the fruits, before you judge everyone with the broad brush of arrogance as well as mis-information! To speak up
in the name of truth is not an ill-conceived deed…and to identify the tree that produced the rotted fruit is called wisdom. There are two ways of looking at these videos but humor never enters the mind as one of them
We have all had the sad experience of someone making insulting remarks and when we call them on it the inane response being “Oh, I was only kdding..can’t you take a joke??” That seems to be the same thing happening here with these proponents trying to place the blame on our lack of a sense of humor….Indeed!!!  A stone in the road would be more sensitive!
What a sad commentary that anyone would find humor in any of this..and chide those who do not! Yes, Sandra, by their fruits we shall know them!

“Global warming” and “climate change” are different terms because they refer to different (though related) concepts.  “Global warming” refers to a more specific concept of surface temperature increases. It is a subset of the broader, more general concept of “climate change”, which can of course include global cooling and any other long-term change in the Earth’s climate or of a region on Earth.  Both terms (and others) have been in use for decades.  According to the National Academy of Sciences, “the phrase ‘climate change’ is growing in preferred use to ‘global warming’ because it helps convey that there are [other] changes in addition to rising temperatures.”

Really, Paul?  How come ‘climate change’ entered the public discourse vocabulary at the precise time that ‘global warming’ was being called into question?  I’ve followed this for quite a while and I’m pretty sure the correlation is cause and effect.

ToddC - yeah, it’s all a big communist plot.

Check out the credible scientists and then make up your mind.  Credible means not on the payroll of large resource companies.

Climate change, global warming - if you want to call it corn flakes, it’s still a real issue and needs to be addressed by all of us.

Paul,

please don’t be ridiculous. I never meant it as a communist plot.  It is just junk science.  Again, read Ian Wishart’s book “Air Con” and check his sources.  It changed my mind.

Also, we have to be careful not to fall into the familiar trap of shooting the messenger because we don’t like the message.  Discounting science from resource companies who have a vested interest in the outcome is equivalent to academic scientists doing the exact same thing for the exact same reasons.  Either both are credible or neither are. It is one reason why there is so much dispute about it.

The video that seems to have everyone up in arms is not supported by a lot of environmentalists.  Naomi Klein to name one.  That’s not the issue.  Never mind the press, news media, etc.  I’m talking about the people who study science, and particularly climate, and are not being paid by the resource industry.

Estimates by many scientists have been low - islands are disappearing faster than expected - and the cause is global warming.  Tell the climate refugees who have lost or are losing their homes that it’s not a real issue.

The National Academy of Science is not credible?  If academic scientists are paid to provide phoney research so they can come up with certain results, then we’re all on trouble.  Then there is no place to find real information, and we’ll just have to keep making it up.

Sandra,

Please back up your statement about islands disappearing.  Give us island names and information sources, please.  I’d be interested as to where it came from.

People who study science are usually paid by either corporations or tax-payer funded grants.  Either way, they are both subjected to bias in one way or another or they aren’t.

National *Academy* of science.  Hmm… sounds like people paid by taxpayers, with grant money on the line.

You are right.  We are in trouble, as Climate-gate let us all too painfully know.

Read Ian’s book and get back to me!

Todd C
Well for starters, check out http://www.thedailystar.net/newDesign/news-details.php?nid=135601.  There are others, but you can start there.

Janny, you claimed, “the right wingers didn’t change the name of the cause [from global warming to climate change]. The Obama camp did”.  For your edification, the term “climate change” was embraced by the George W. Bush administration. Publicly revealed in 2003, a memo by GOP strategist Frank Luntz (whose more recent work has been with the Fox News Channel as a frequent commentator and analyst) advised the Bush administration: “It’s time for us to start talking about ‘climate change’ instead of ‘global warming’... ‘Climate change’ is less frightening than ‘global warming.’ ...[C]limate change suggests a more controllable and less emotional challenge.”

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Moore_/_South_Talpatti
South Talpatti (as it was known in Bangladesh) was a small uninhabited offshore sandbar landform in the Bay of Bengal, off the coast of the Ganges-Brahmaputra Delta region. It emerged in the Bay of Bengal in the aftermath of the Bhola cyclone in 1970, and disappeared at some later point.

A sandbar.  Run for your lives!!!

Todd C
Books about scientific matters written by a Christian Fundamentalist who believes that the bible is literally true are not my criteria for a credible source.

John E,
Read the rest of the article.  Wouldn’t be nearly so funny is you live in Maldives.

Thank you for your contribution Paul.

Seriously, folks.  Climate change denial is a really serious matter.

Of course, if you believe that these are the “End Times”, then what is happening around the world - the severe weather disturbances, a potential other war in the Middle East - all fit into the End Times scenario.  Problem is, I don’t think Catholics are included in the group that are going to be carried up in the Rapture.

What if God carries us all up into the clouds in “The Rapture” and drops us on our heads - it would serve us right!

Sorry Sandra, I’m a slow reader.  I’m up to this point in the article now:
“Actually there is no way to measure the cause and effect of small islands ending up in the ocean accurately. It is difficult to assume the future sea-level rise. “

Again, the small island being a sand bar, which is made of….SAND!

If that doesn’t inspire you to future invesigate, how about checking out what is happening to Lohachara island, the low lying island in Vanuatua, and the Carteret Islands.

I have seen documentaries where the people of these islands have been interviewed.  They are people of little means, so they will probably end up in refugee camps, and we all know what they are like!

Didn’t Lohachara begin to disappear in the 70’s as a result of erosion?

Land formations are constantly undergoing changes through geologic forces that are both normal and natural…e.g. earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, water and wind erosion. These occurances take place over time..always have and always will as long as time permitts. Without getting into details of how this has been happening all through the geologic history of the planet
scientists do not view this as new phenomena…and actually over time have proven to be constructive forces rather than destructive. Of course when it comes to the people who have lived at times in these precarious parts of the planet it is a different veiwpoint. Anyway we have strayed far from the intent of the original article…and there has become a lot of mis-information being tossed around here….as well as personal bias…Just go back to the beginning of the comments here and scroll down….and see how we have gone away from addressing the assinine attempt by afew “sick-os” using this controversy to achieve their 15 minutes of fame with their very black sense of humor?! Why would anyone, pro or con the issue, buy into
this!

Sandra,

So?  If you read his book, which I have, you won’t find a single mention of Christian Fundamentalism. His book is based on research, and his sources are well documented.  He debunks much of the junk science out there.  Please don’t be snarky and dismissive just because you don’t like the political or religious background of the author.  His book, as well as his research and sourcing, is solid.  Please read it.

Good point Shamrock.  I’m out!

ToddC, lots of books are “based on research” using “well documented” sources.  So too are lies, countless conspiracy theories and TV movies “based on a true story”.  Doesn’t mean they’re worth anything more than entertainment value.

One reviewer opined: “This book is a muddled confusing mess. I slogged through most of it, but found myself constantly distracted by the game of trying to decide whether Wishart honestly misunderstands the underlying science of climate change or dishonestly chooses to misrepresent it. Chapter 16, appropriately titled `The Real Agenda’, provided the answer. Both options are correct. The book is simply a chance for Wishart to tie a barrow he has apparently been pushing for some time now, to a current hot topic. The main message of the book is that big business, the UN and all ‘greenies’ are joined in a conspiracy to control our every move. Climate change is just the tool they are using, and therefore accuracy and clarity about it are unimportant. Don’t expect to learn anything about climate change from this book but it does provide a look into the swirling, angry tempest that exists in the mind of a conspiracy theorist.”

Another reviewer shared a similar sentiment: “An unfortunate reality is that individuals are willing to lap up controversy. Some people capitalize on this simply to make a profit while not believing any of the incredulous words they spew, whereas others are so far gone they write their manuscripts on previously used tin foil hats.  Wishart’s screed against environmentalists and cherry-picking of the science literature is indicative of the latter case. After several chapters of not properly engaging in the expert literature but relying on quotes and misquotes from skeptic sites, he ends his diatribe with an entire chapter devoted to one individual and the greatest conspiracy concocted since 9/11 Truthers.”

And another, “Wishart is an ‘investigative journalist’ from the farther right. If there are no conspiracies on offer he will manufacture one in order to write, and this book is evidence of that statement.”

I have no reason to believe these reviewers are any less credible than you.  Everyone has an axe to grind or story to tell, and the author is making a profit with his.

So, READ THE BOOK!

Todd,
It’s difficult enough to educate oneself on this crucial issue without wasting time reading someone who has no credentials to speak on climate change.  He believes that Adam and Eve actually existed, and the earth is only 8 thousand years old.  So he’s not about to investigate anything that may contradict his fundamentalist mindset.  Not unlike a Muslim fundamentalist, which is why his thinking is potentially dangerous, or at best, seriously misleading.

Todd, your instruction “READ THR BOOK” is equivalent to “READ THE PROPAGANDA” or “LISTEN TO HITLER” or “SEE WHAT CHARLES MANSON HAS TO SAY”.

Catholic mommma
Erosion is one of the forces that is causing the problem - the other is rising sea levels - a measurable event - due to global, warming according to a consensus of the scientists who study these matters.

What a great way to destroy peoples desire to want to help. The people who made this film should be asshamed.

People commenting here….Consider the source of these videos…for now never mind your “scientific” sources! Consider who THESE people are, where they are coming from ..and who is behind them! This is utter trash! and we are wasting our time, talent and treasure to give them even the time of day. If the NCR and other blogsites won’t give us anything better than this to consider then let them know we will take our time, talent and treasure elsewhere! This is pure sensationalism, cheap “journalism” at its worst! My final comment is this to NCR…if you cannot give us better than this…“Sayonara “! This has become the blind leading the blind!
ps…..What is with the sudden introduction of the appellation “Catholic momma”, Sandra????? Are you trying to “broaden your
base” with that?

I’m just looking for an honest answer…to those of you who feel that global warming aka climate change is a real and serious threat: do you approve of these shock videos?  Honestly?

Perhaps they learned the technique from evangelists such as Ray Comfort and Kirk Cameron: “If you are not seeking to save them with fear… you are guilty of the serious crime of ‘depraved indifference.’”  And, “You must awaken them, and warn them to run from that death trap!”  They even quote the Bible, “But if the watchman sees the sword coming, and does not blow the trumpet, and the people are not warned; if the sword comes, and takes any person from among them… his blood will I require at the watchmen’s hand… When I say to the wicked, ‘O wicked man, you shall surely die’; if you do not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity’ but his blood will I require at your hand”.

The Church also teaches, “A human being must always obey the certain judgment of his conscience. If he were deliberately to act against it, he would condemn himself.”  I would not want the makers of the videos to condemn themselves by not obeying the certain judgment of their conscience.

Ya know, I just can’t picture Kirk Cameron in a “Fire Proof” type video saying “no pressure, but I really don’t want to get a divorce.  It’s up to you, what do you think?”  and when his wife says still still wants the divorce, him pushing a button, killing her, and people LAUGHING?????

Perhaps you need a sense of humor first, and a charitable interpretation.

Tom, I’m not trying to be snarky, I just really find these videos disturbing.  I have a very good sense of humor.  For example, I agree wholeheartedly with everything Marty has said on here (not too surprising, since we’ve been married for 20 yrs,) but when Greg responded back to him with “Riiight.  Absolutely. Your choice.  Nooooo pressure. “I had to laugh right out loud!  It was a perfect line! (THEN Marty scowled!  :-)
But really, I’m all for taking care of the environment.  We do have a responsibility, as Mr.Aiken stated in the article.  However, I’m also PRO-LIFE!

If these videos would have been made in favor of anything I am passionate about, I would still find them deplorable.

Well Kathy, if you don’t view the videos as “pro-life”, other people do.  There are people who apparently believe quite seriously that the human race is or may be on the brink of extinction or serious harm due to environmental changes and human actions.  Maybe you don’t.  Opinions run the gamut, but I don’t interpret the videos as “disturbing” or threatening me any more than my own choices / interpretations may.  Make of it what you will, but meanwhile, the children who made the videos apparently had a blast.  “Exploding is fun!” the children cheered.  And “I am very happy to get blown up to save the world,” said the boy.

Well, Tom, you and I will have to agree to disagree.

I don’t find blowing people up who disagree with you (children in a classroom no less!) OR eco-terrorist juveniles snarling at adults humorous.

Like I said, if these video’s were of pro-life people blowing up pro-aborts, I wouldn’t find that the least bit funny either.

Tom…If you don’t find these videos disturbing perhaps you better go check in with your local undertaker!!!!! Give me a break!!!!!!!!! You
are either brain/dead or comotose!!! Maybe a little of both. You know you watch enough of this garbage from the crazies after awhile Tom…welll, you know? you become like one of them. A zombie! has more sensitivity! You get what I mean??? They produce these things EXACTLY for the shock value…if you aren’t at least a LITTLE bit shocked Tom maybe you should think seriously about getting a neurologist to check you out!

No, I’m always up for a good disappointment.  May you be disillusioned.

OK Tom…your right.  The video’s are great, and Shamrock and I are disillusioned.

(That is sarcasm, by the way.)

Yes, you are right, Sandra, catholics aren’t going to be carried up in the rapture, as in the Left Behind rapture, and neither are you.  The rapture is a man-made doctrine started in England by two evangelical pastors.  Are catholics going to go to heaven?  Well, if they love God and neighbor by obeying the 10 commandments and teachings of the church, confess their sins and pray, Heaven in Jesus will be overflowing with catholics.  I hope to be one of them. Yes, I do confess the Lord with my mouth and accept Him everyday as my Lord and Savior, and strive, most importantly with my actions.
