On Vacation With the Holy Father

Photo highlights from Benedict XVI ’s summer stay at Castel Gandolfo.

Pope Benedict XVI’s summer holiday at Castel Gandolfo included the announcement of a follow-up to his best-selling book Jesus of Nazareth.

The Holy Father found time to take a walk with his personal secretary, Msgr. Georg Ganswein, through the forest of Rocca di Mezzo in Abruzzo, central Italy, Aug. 6.

He acknowledged some Mexican pilgrims Aug. 11 and had time to catch up on the news from L’Osservatore Romano July 23.

The Pope greeted pilgrims after Mass on the feast of the Assumption of Mary at the Church of St. Thomas Aug. 15. Also in attendance at the Mass of the Assumption were a group of nuns and the Pope’s brother, Msgr. Georg Ratzinger.
