Why Do Catholics ...?

The Nicene Creed and Apostles’ Creed say that Jesus descended to hell, and on the third day, he rose again. The word ‘again’ makes me wonder if he had already risen at least once before — and if so, when? Have I misunderstood the use of the word ‘again’?

"Nothing as interesting as a second time," says Colin Donovan, vice president of theology at EWTN.

"It’s just that the Latin resurrexit is literally ‘he rose again,’ as distinguished from surrexit — ‘to rise’ — as in, ‘get up’ in the morning. Hence, also the word ‘resurrection.’"
