Why Do Catholics ...?

When did the Church start celebrating the Solemnities of the Most Holy Trinity and the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi)?

Pope John XXII (1316-1334) proclaimed Trinity Sunday to be celebrated the Sunday after Pentecost, according to The Catholic Encyclopedia: Since it was after the first great Pentecost that the Trinitarian doctrine was proclaimed, the timing is apropos.

Corpus Christi was first instituted by Pope Urban IV in 1264 to celebrate the holy Eucharist. It follows Trinity Sunday: This year, Trinity Sunday is celebrated June 3 and Corpus Christi is June 10.
