Canadians March
GLOBAL TELEVISION, May 16 — The ninth annual March for Life this month attracted some 5,700 participants and garnered more press coverage than in any previous year, according to the Canadian broadcaster.
Global TV and another network, CTV, also offered a panel discussion on the “pro-life debate” which ran over six minutes, providing pro-life members of Parliament Tom Wappel (Liberal) and Maurice Vellacott (Conservative) the opportunity to express their defense of the right to life for unborn Canadians.
Dems Helped
DAKOTA VOICE, May 12 — A national organization for pro-life Democrats says the abortion ban the South Dakota Legislature approved earlier this year shows the progress that can be made when pro-life lawmakers of both parties work together.
The group, Democrats for Life of America, noted that pro-life Democratic Sen. Julie Bartling introduced the legislation in the Senate.
One-third of Democrats, including three Democratic women, sponsored the House version, and Democrats “saved the day on this bill” as their votes assured passage by compensating for Republican nay votes, said Kristen Day, director of Democrats for Life.
Military Ban Stands
UNITED PRESS INTERNATIONAL, May 15 — The House voted strongly last week against an amendment that would allow military hospitals to perform abortions.
This is the 10th year in a row the measure has been brought forward since Congress banned abortions at federally funded facilities, including military hospitals, in 1996.
