For example, John XXIII, in Pacem in Terris (Peace on Earth), wrote: "If we look upon the dignity of the human person in the light of divinely revealed truth, we cannot help but esteem it far more highly; for men are redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ: They are by grace the children and friends of God and heirs of eternal glory."

And John Paul II, in Evangelium Vitae (The Gospel of Life), stated: "Every person sincerely open to truth and goodness can, by the light of reason and the hidden action of grace, come to recognize in the natural law written in the heart (Romans 2:14-15) the sacred value of human life, from its very beginning until its end, and can affirm the right of every human being to have this primary good respected to the highest degree."
