Meeting the Pope

Facts of Life

“I brought him a soccer ball,” said William Morkin, a student at St. Francis Xavier School in La Grange, Ill., of his February meeting with the Pope in an interview with Chicago’s ABC 7 TV station.

The 8-year-old’s letter is included in a new book in which the Pope answers letters from children around the world.

“Dear Pope Francis, if you could do one miracle, what would it be?” the letter asks.

Pope Francis replied: “I would heal children.” He also said he liked William’s drawing of a cross with a rainbow.

When William met the Pope, ABC 7 also reported, he asked: “Is it hard being a pope?”

The Pope answered in Spanish, “It’s easy, and it’s hard, like the life of any person.”
