As a new president settles into the Oval Office in a time of turmoil and uncertainty, people of faith in America are asking God to guide him. But that’s not their top prayer intention. What is? Help with personal concerns. That’s according to Carol Zaleski, coauthor of Prayer: A History. “A request is often involved — for divine protection, healing or special favors for oneself or for others,” Zaleski told the Erie Times-News. A 2008 survey by the Pew Research Center showed that close to 60% of Americans pause to pray at least once a day.
