Scholarship Countdown

A month ago we were delighted to begin calling for entries in the Register’s first-ever scholarship contest. We announced the start of the competition — made possible by the generosity of an education-minded donor — in our Sept. 27 issue. Since then we’ve run a reminder on this page and have had a continuously running banner on NCRegister.com.

Time flies when you’re reading (and writing) essays. The deadline for entries is now just one week away, on Nov. 1.

We’ll be awarding a total of $2,250 to the three high-school students and/or college undergrads who write the best essay under the title “Catholic Is Cooler Than Secular.”

The winner will receive $1,000 to apply to his or her tuition. First runner-up gets $750, and $500 will go to the second runner-up.

If you or a student you know has been procrastinating, take heart. There’s still time. Just go to NCRegister.com and click on the “Scholarship Contest” banner. There you’ll find the complete (and simple) rules.
