Register a Victory

In early March, Catholics everywhere had their eyes on Connecticut — and the Register.

When two activist legislators introduced legislation that would promote a secularized form of Catholic parishes, the Church was quick to act, and the Church won.

Credit goes to the bishops, who raised the alarm, and the Knights of Columbus, who rallied their members. Without their decisive action, the story would have ended very differently.

But the Register also had its role to play. On our website, we reported key information about what the bill’s supporters planned to do. Once that information was public, their strategy was doomed. Connecticut has the Register’s supporters to thank for this victory, too.

This victory can give us great hope in other areas. On issues like FOCA, clone-and-kill research and euthanasia, an energized Church plus valuable reporting can have the same salutary result.
