On the Shoulders of the Saints

Publisher's Note

What do Sts. John Fisher, Thomas More, John the Baptist, Peter, Paul and Thomas the Apostle have in common?

Besides being martyred for their Christian faith, their feast days are, providentially, encompassed within the Fortnight for Freedom (June 21-July 4), in which people of faith across the United States will celebrate our great country’s constitutional commitment to religious freedom.

Last November, then-Bridgeport, Conn., Bishop William Lori (now archbishop of Baltimore) in these pages called religious liberty “the pre-eminent social-justice issue of our time.” Little did we know what was in store.

In just a few days, dioceses across the country will be holding events to call to mind and reinforce this precious gift, which, as our Constitution states, doesn’t come from men, but from our Creator. As these days unfold, the Register will continue to chronicle this vital issue, in print and online at NCRegister.com.

Please continue to storm heaven with your prayers, and ask John Fisher, Thomas More, John the Baptist, Peter, Paul and Thomas the Apostle for their intercession.

God bless you!
