Great Expectations

Publisher's Note

A year ago, I used this space to announce the redesign of the Register’s website, NCRegister.com. This year, as we mark its first anniversary, I remain hopeful that our beefed-up presence in the digital world will help us continue to reach as many souls as the Lord wishes.

The numbers are encouraging. In 2007, our site averaged fewer than 100,000 page views per month. In the year just past, monthly views averaged well over three- quarters of a million. That’s an astonishing increase — more than 700%.

And why not? As I wrote last January, since our subscribers enjoy access to over 12 years of archives, it’s hard to think of any richer library of news-oriented Catholic content on the Internet. (If you’re not among them, you can subscribe via the website. Just click on “Subscriber Services.”)

I added: “Major as they are, none of the improvements you see at NCRegister.com will take anything away from our print edition. In fact, we expect our Web work to push the print Register to higher levels of quality and completeness.”

The editors would like me to ask if, heading into 2011, you feel we’ve met that latter expectation. Would you let us know what you think? Drop us an e-mail at editor@ncregister.com. Or, if you’re a member of our “print-only” readership and prefer pen and paper over e-mail, write us at: Editors, National Catholic Register, P.O. Box 237, Thornwood, NY 10594.

Happy New Year in the Lord!
