The Obama Administration is making a political calculation. 98% of women (even Catholic women) have used contraception. So they think it was a brilliant move (as a way to progress their regressive agenda) to mandate that Catholic organizations (actually almost all organizations and businesses, not just Catholic) provide contraception (and sterilizations and abortifacients) to their employees.
They thought, this will rile up those “cooky, extremist” folks who are against contraception and remind everyone else how extremely crazy they are — therefore marginalizing them. In the meantime, everyone else will be excited to get free contraception and “better health care” for women.
What it revealed is how flippantly and inconsequential Obama and his supporters view your religious freedom.
It also revealed Obama’s lack of understanding of the Catholic Church. His Catholic counsel is one that views the bishops as insignificant. And one that desperately wants to believe in a democratic magisterium of the uncatechized (non-mass-attending) masses.
Well this year, he’s going to get a lesson in reality. And his politically calculated provocation is going to backfire on him as he’s created an amazing opportunity for Catholics and non-Catholics alike to learn what the Church teaches on issues like contraception and the necessity and role of our bishops. More profoundly, it’s becoming a lesson for all Americans in religious liberty…which is exactly what this issue is really about.
Here’s a great new video from Fr. Pontifex and Spirit Juice Studios using a little spoken word to drive home the point. This is but a taste of what is to come in this pivotal election year:

Thank you, Barefoot Mommy. That is a totally bogus statistic.
Nice post.
Side note: Your comment about a “democratic magisterium of the uncatechized” reminded me of the comments on this blog: www.whatifwejustsaidwait.org.
Wonderful! We need more of these videos, and more courageous Priests to speak up!
Bravo! Our religious freedom is at stake. I say we fight.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8n0Q8THJE60
Before this is all done I fear that, once our church has repented of our own sins and has come closer to God, that we may have to pray that God Himself would smite this man and his administration just as he did with Pharaoh, either at the ballot box or in other ways that God Himself may choose, so we must continue to pray and to trust God, act as we can and to be at peace. Psalm 37, vs 35 and 36 reminds us of the wicked man who was standing firm, and yet when the just man looked again he was standing no more, but God may allow us to be purified in dealing with evil for awhile because our own church has been lukewarm for so long and we have been silently permitting evil in our midst for to long. So let us more deeply repent of our own sins first so that God may hear our prayers.
The statistic Planned Parenthood is promoting was manufactured by one of their subsidiaries that makes up statistics for the liberals to quote. The sampling they took was from 15 to 44 year old women. The sample was only 7,356 women, who checked “Catholic” in the survey. I cannot remember if it was 25% of the women asked said they were Catholic, but I know only 60% of those women the question applied to were practicing Catholics. The rest either didn’t go to Mass at all, or only went on the average of once a month. I definitely remember the statistic has approximately 1,000 Catholics ... from that gobbleygook they came up with 98% of all Catholic women used contraceptives at least once. I’m a cradle Catholic of 71 years. No one I know took part in the survey!
I’m seventeen, nobody asked me to take part in ANY survey!
Wether or not Catholic women have used contraception is not the question. It is a matter of personal concern between the Catholic Woman and her Priest. The present administration and the basic Democrats are striving for domination and have decided this would be a good place to start. What does it signify? The end of the White, Christian, European people as the controling force in the United States. Their reluctance to be responsible and to procreate as well as to use abortion plus their lack of marriage and a family have doomed them to extinction. Mixed marriage, immigration and other classes of people (Islam-hispanic-mixed) will soon inhabit the United States as the total population colapses into just another country in the world unable to defend itself against the evil ways of the world and the temptations of the flesh. Its all in the bible you know…..
how about explaining the difference between “relativism” and “the absolute”, starting with the “N” word in Th Decalogue, Numbers 1 thru 10?
There may be a real blessing in disguise here. George Weigel once wrote a book called “Courage to be Catholic” in which he alleged that some of our shepherds were unwilling to teach about these issues as it could divide Catholics and create a divide among Catholics. And we hear that this administration is using so called “Catholics” who oppose traditional Catholic teaching to create a wedge to gain support for it’s attempt to oppose our beliefs but more importantly to oppose the first amendment freedom of relation which this President took an oath to uphold. Perhaps God will use this persecution as a winnowing fan to divide the wheat from the Chaff in our own church also. And we can be patient with those who struggle with the truth but to obstinantly oppose the same must be confronted within ourselves. Wait a minute, did I say this president is opposing the constitution? Where are those who should be calling out TREASON?
Just a note on the statistics. You can manage statistics to prove whatever you want them to prove. If you don’t believe me take a probabilities and statistics class or ask someone that teaches it. All they have to do is be cautious of how they gather the info, from whom they gather it, and use the average technique that best suits their cause.
First, hurrah for the number of people who realize that the statistic is a lie! Personally its gratifying to see the bishops waking up. Its like the ents have finally opened their eyes. Go bishops!
As far as the trolls go.. Seriously nedra? You lump immigrants and hispanics in with the evil of abortion? Dang i guess my mexican fiance (did u know not all hispanics are mexican?) Whos planning on nfp and is being confirmed soon is super evil for marrying a white girl. Did you know the kkk doesnt accept catholics? Or are u just a lefty in right disguise? #rhetorical.
Sad to say Obama has taken the bad advice of his Cafeteria Catholic friends such as Pelosi, Biden and Prof. Gutting(ND) as allegedly representing a misguided portion of the Catholic vote-electorate. It is interesting that Mr. Santorum started to surge in the Polls when he opposed in public the Obama, Biden, Gutting(ND) and Pelosi agemda. The big margin of victory in the House of Rep. for the repeal of the Biden Obama mandate like Santorum’s surge is a sign of things to come.
“Why do the Bishops think they are the chosen people who need exemptions from the law of the land?”
Charles, as a Catholic business owner, I don’t want to be required to pay for drugs that will target the infant in the womb for annihilation, even if my employees want to use these drugs. But President Obama’s mandate will force not only bishops, but all Catholic who own or operate medium to large businesses - even those who cannot countenance such unlawful killing - to provide these drugs.
I thought this was America. I thought that the word on the street was: “what you do in the privacy of your bedroom is nobody else’s business.” And “choice: it’s a private matter between a woman and her doctor.” All of a sudden it’s no longer, “private business,” not when I’m required to write the checks for it. And if I’m being required by my government to write checks to pay for the commission of atrocities, then I’m going to say, “Hell, no!”
It’s either a woman’s “private business” or it’s all our business. And if we’re all paying for it, that makes it all our business. And if it’s all our business, we all have a say. Unless you want this to be Communist China where more abortions per capita have taken place than any nation in history. I for one prefer the United States and the Constituion.
I understand that English-speakers can learn Chinese very quickly, Charles, if they put your mind to it. I think you’d be much happier and would fit in much better there than here.
If it’s “her private business”, then she should bloody well pay for it out of her own private pocket.
And if I am forced to pay for it, then that MAKES it *my* business. And I have one and only one real business here on this Earth: to see to it that I do good and avoid doing evil all of my days. Now to kill the innocent is one of the worst sins anyone can commit, or participate in.
It is my business to be willing to die rather than to commit such a sin, or even to participate in it.
And that would be the case in Communist China. But last I heard, America was a free country, with the free exercise of religion. No one need die, or be fined or jailed here. Not so long as we can quickly get Mao-Tse Obama out of the White House.
Maybe Nedra is a troll or a very bigoted Catholic. Nedra, dear I hate to be the bearer of bad news but this country was once inhabited by the Native Americans whose culture was almost obliterated by people like you, the white Europeans who came to these shores. Guess what we even have a beautiful Native American, Katera Tekakwitha who will soon be canonized. The first First Nations/Native American Saint.
Since someone mentioned Psalm 37 above, I thought I would carry through with other verses from it. Beginning with verse 3: Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. 4. Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.
5. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this: 6. He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun. 7. Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes….” Keep and live the faith.
hmm, nice post, actually, i’m on diet research, thank for sharing,

WE ALL NEED TO LOOK WITHIN INCLUDING THE BISHOPS AND PRIESTS AND ASK FORGIVENESS FOR OUR PLUNGE INTO DEBAUCHERY AND LACK OF WITNESS TO TRUTH.
FREEDOM TO PREACH IS A RIGHT, FREEDOM TO PREACH THE TRUTH IS A COMMANDMENT. IT ALSO WOULDN’T HURT IF A FEW OF THE ORDAINED HAD THE GUTS TO WALK IN PUBLIC WITH COLLAR. CROSS AND CASSOCK; WE HAVE 17 YEAR OLD BOYS WALKING ACROSS MINEFIELDS TO PROTECT THAT RIGHT.
