Why Do Catholics ...?

I heard the Pope encouraged a little boy who wants to be a priest when he was in Rio de Janeiro for World Youth Day. What advice did he give?

"During the papal motorcade through Rio on July 26, Nathan de Brito broke through the security barrier and climbed onto the popemobile to greet Pope Francis. He expressed his desire to be a priest, and the Holy Father said he would pray for him," Catholic News Agency reported.

"As of today, your vocation is set," said Francis, moved to tears as he embraced the 9-year-old boy.

Brazil’s O Globo TV network reported that the little boy received a warm welcome from his classmates as school resumed July 30, CNA also reported.

"I need to learn a little bit of theology," de Brito said with a smile, also stating that he is ready for "everything" that being a priest means.

"His good behavior shows the Christian principles that have been rooted in him, such as obedience," said his teacher Keyla Fernandes.

Father Valdir Mesquita, the pastor of de Brito’s parish, said, "This encounter [with the Pope] will certainly remain in his heart and will forever change his life."

Palestinian Christians celebrate Easter Sunday Mass at Holy Family Church in Gaza City on March 31, amid the ongoing battles Israel and the Hamas militant group.

People Explain ‘Why I Go to Mass’

‘Why go to Mass on Sundays? It is not enough to answer that it is a precept of the Church. … We Christians need to participate in Sunday Mass because only with the grace of Jesus, with his living presence in us and among us, can we put into practice his commandment, and thus be his credible witnesses.’ —Pope Francis
