Freddie Bartholomew, Spencer Tracy and Lionel Barrymore star in this story of a rich boy rescued at sea by fishermen. On the way back to port, the boy learns lessons of manhood, hard work and the dignity of labor.

TURNER CLASSIC MOVIES Catholic director Leo McCarey helmed this beloved 1944 story of a young parish priest (Bing Crosby) who takes his aging pastor (Barry Fitzgerald) under his wing, shepherds a young couple into marriage and molds local street boys into an accomplished choir. The French director Jean Renoir once said, “Leo McCarey understood people better than any other Hollywood director.”

American Experience: Space Men

PBS This new documentary profiles U.S. Air Force scientists and pilots who pioneered the U.S. space program while in “Project Manhigh” and “Project Excelsior,” 1955-1960. Dr. John Paul Stapp guided research and testing. In balloon flights to the stratosphere, “pre-astronauts” such as Dr. David Simons and test pilot Joseph Kittinger risked their lives to collect vital scientific data.
