Universities Respond to Cardinal Newman Society Report

29 Problematic Online Links Removed

Only a couple of weeks ago the Cardinal Newman Society unveiled the results of their investigative report, “A Scandalous Relationship: Catholic Colleges and Planned Parenthood.” That report detailed more than 150 connections demonstrating Catholic institutions of higher education supporting and linking to Planned Parenthood, the country’s largest provider of abortions. I originally reported on it here.

Now, not even a month later, the Cardinal Newman Society is reporting that 29 of the online links have been removed. You can find the updated report here.

Among those removed, were some that I had drawn attention to in my original blog post, such as:

University of St. Thomas (MN) adjunct professor Jennifer Oliphant, touts her experience as a health educator with Planned Parenthood of Minnesota/South Dakota.

The University of Dayton’s (OH) Women’s Gender and Studies Program identifies “placement opportunities” for student “service learning,” including Planned Parenthood.

The College of St. Catherine (MN) communications students’ COMM Club announced in April 2007 their plans for a support rally for Planned Parenthood.

These, and many others, have been removed.

“We’re excited. That’s nearly 20 percent,” said Patrick Reilly, president of the Cardinal Newman Society. “The tide is turning. These schools don’t want a bad reputation. We expect to see more changes in the upcoming weeks.”

I asked Reilly whether the removal of such links was necessarily a good thing, in that the connections may remain, but only hidden from the public.

“These aren’t the biggest problems. They point to larger problems at these institutions,” said Reilly. “The underlying problems at these colleges are still there and need to be addressed, and that takes time. But we do know that, as often happens at these institutions, problem faculty, staff, and students create these links and it’s not until we bring it to the attention of college officials that they’re able to do anything about it.”

I don’t think removal of those items means anything.  Instead of being above board, it will be below.

Thank you for doing your part to keep these institutions pure, and thus their students.  No Catholic institution can support such an evil organization that makes its money by preying on the vulnerable and call itself Catholic.  A woman’s right to choice does not include killing an innocent human being, rather her choice is whether or not to engage in sexual activity when she is not prepared or ready to raise children.  I am a sinner like all people, but I don’t clamor that society must make the sinful things I do legal to make myself feel better about my failures to live a virtuous life or so I can continue in my sinful ways. If society does not uphold the virtues that make us civilized we will cease to be so.  Observing the current rhetoric of politicians or the impatience of drivers on the roadway (I am as quilty as anyone) proves that allowing such evil into our society has already had its negative effects.  God bless to all, especially the unfortunate souls who believed ending a life would solve their problem.

I will be helping my sons choose a Catholic university in the future, and you’d better believe, we will be checking for this kind of sinful hypocrisy. Thank you for exposing these schools.

Thanks Tim.  We are blessed to have Ave Maria university here.

Thanks Tim. We are blessed to have Ave Maria here.  Schools who use the name Catholic mean very little to me.  Faith doesn’t seem to be a priority in our elementary nor high schools.  I would love for someone to do a study on the different high schools and their faith formation.  Perhaps they would be embarrased and step up to the plate. I know there are some very good ones, but I believe they are few and far between.

Our son will someday be going to the University of Dallas.  One of the few colleges with a pretty consistent record of Catholic loyalty and always high on the Newman Society list.  We could not in good conscience support these mixed up schools… how can mixed up people be trusted to enrich and guide minds?

Chose heaven or chose hell ... their “pro-choice” selection makes for a very hot eternity !

Repent before it is too late ... run to God’s Mercy before you face His justice!

Could “Catholic” hospitals be next to be vetted??  At St Francis Hospital in Milwaukee,  there is a “chaplain” with a posting next to the desk that reads regarding burial for “products of conception”.  If speaking of babies, I’m shocked.  If something else, I’m puzzled!!

Yes, Franda, that hospital should be shut down because of your ignorance.

Randall,  why don’t you explain to R. Franda, what is meant by the medicalese, “Products of conception?”  Or don’t you know?
In the major midwestern university hospital labor and delivery unit where I worked for almost 20 of my 32 year nursing career, I saw doctors change the former terminologies (embryo or fetus, depending on gestational age) to “products of conception.” This was their deliberate attempt to dehumanize the developing human.

.....we’ll see !!!!!

Thank you THERESE60640 for the explanation and your kindness. It is sad that Randall has such little regard for God’s children. He/She needs our prayers. I hope R. Franda knows that this is the price one pays for being a witness for life. I hope R. Franda is not discouraged. Randall would be mocking Christ also.

I’d only mock Christ if he read NCReg.

Next under cover report could be locating diocese’ that actually teach NFP ;-)

If Christ chose to read NCReg, who are we to tell Him what to read? The sin of pride is very much alive. Randall is saying…I know better than God. A sad individual!

I’m confused…some of the links are still on the pages and weren’t removed.

It’s in bringing things like this to light that the darkness is overcome.  Thanks, Tim.
