At the Pope’s Side

Don’t miss the in person interview with Heidi Sierras on page one.

Normally, we have interviews with longtime, proven, Catholic leaders in that space: cardinals, founders of apostolates, current newsmakers. But this is our second interview with this newly Catholic mother of four from California.

May 10 is Mother’s Day, but that isn’t the only reason we feature her again. A key part of the Register’s mission is to put our readers at the Pope’s side. We give you his words in the weekly audience, tell you what he’s doing each week, and offer a sense of what it’s like to be with him.

Sierras knows what it’s like. The Holy Father baptized her in St. Peter’s at the Easter Vigil, after she spent Holy Week attending his liturgical celebrations. Her awe and joy are infectious.

Palestinian Christians celebrate Easter Sunday Mass at Holy Family Church in Gaza City on March 31, amid the ongoing battles Israel and the Hamas militant group.

People Explain ‘Why I Go to Mass’

‘Why go to Mass on Sundays? It is not enough to answer that it is a precept of the Church. … We Christians need to participate in Sunday Mass because only with the grace of Jesus, with his living presence in us and among us, can we put into practice his commandment, and thus be his credible witnesses.’ —Pope Francis
