Images of Family Day in Rome
Hundreds of thousands people from all over Italy descended on Rome's Circus Maximus to take part in ‘Family Day’ on Saturday.
The massive rally, against a proposed law called the Cirinnà bill which would allow same-sex unions and adoption by same-sex couples, was primarily about holding up true marriage as between a man and a woman.
The event organizer, Massimo Gandolfini, said the numbers of those attending were "many, many more than we thought", and estimated the number to be "at least a million".

Massimo Gandolfini, chief organiser of the event, is a member of the Neocatechumenal Way and a married father of seven adopted children. He is also director of Neurosurgery at Brescia's Catholic hospital.
Italian journalist and politician Mario Adinolfi told the rally: "This crowd changes the history of the country."
The crowd in Circus Maximus unexpectedly filled the venue.
Prominent Italian pro-lifer Toni Brandi, founder of Notizie Pro Vita, was among a number of pro-life figures to address the rally.
A Christian pro-family group marches with a banner that says: "The family is founded on marriage between a man and a woman: we defend it!"
An opera singer entertained the crowds.
A good number of priests and religious attended.
Several Italian politicians were present at the event including Giorgia Meloni, leader of the right wing Brothers of Italy party. Meloni took the opportunity to announce that she is pregnant: "I found out recently," she said. "This is a day of celebration."
